{First Day Back at the Gym} Post Cleanse

While doing the Beachbody Ultimate Reset cleanse, Beachbody suggests that you do not workout to allow your body to rest and really focus on freeing itself of toxins. Not to mention the food plan is not based around protein intake (which is needed when working out to build muscle).

Today was my first day back in the gym post cleanse! Oh how I missed that place! This time around my workout cloths fit perfectly! What a huge confidence builder! Here is my cuter workout bag and ratty old shoes. I really want to go to Boulder Running Company and buy some new Asics. Today I got a coupon from BRC- it must be a sign!

{Cute Workout Bag from Las Vegas}

{Very Old Shoes}
Tonight I lifted upper body. I found the workout plan from SimplyShredded.com. Wow, I've lost some strength. My arms were shaking by the time I finished the workout. I always try and write down my workouts to include the number of reps and weight. It's nice to be able to look back and see what you were lifting a month ago to make sure you are lifting heavier. This workout has me doing 3 sets of each exercise, 12 reps each.

{Today's Workout}

{Workout Schedule}

Beachbody came out with a P90X app. The best part is Ab Ripper X is Free!!! Actually is looks like this is the last day you can get it for free. With this app I can listen to Tony Horton explain the moves and watch him in the video. Ab Ripper X is by far the best ab workout out there is.

This time around, I am going to make sure I stretch after each session. I am the most inflexible person in the world, besides my dad. I fill like it starts in the arches of my feet, moves up my calves and ends at my butt. Everything is really tight. I am really going to work on this!

By the time I finished my workout I was weak and knew I needed some protein immediately to fuel my muscles. I bought an all natural chocolate milk drink from the cafe. Tomorrow I am going to make sure I bring protein powder.

It fills good to be back in the gym!!!

Running for a Reason

E and I started Phase 2 of Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer. The main difference of Phase 2 is we finally get to add in cardio! Some days it's a relief and other days in annoyingly hard and frustrating. Right now we are working out a total of 6 days a week; lifting and then doing 30 minutes of cardio 4 times a week and doing the most crazy leg workout 2 times a week.

Our first run on Monday we were a little too excited and ran way too fast not paying attention to our heart rate. The second day we monitored our heart rate more, but struggled. It wasn't until we learned that there is a way to calculate the fat burning zone in which your heart rate should be at that it started to make sense.

I read that you take your age minus 226 (for women)  to get your maximum heart rate. Then you take that and multiple it by 60% to get the lower range of your fat burning heart rate zone and 70% to get the upper limit.

Finally, some reasoning on why we are running at the pace we are running at. I am looking forward to the cardio session tomorrow so I can closley monitor my heart rate to make sure I stay in the fat burning zone. There is not way I want to run 4 days a week for funzies. If I am going to run after a hard workout I want to make it count!

My Gym

This afternoon I was in the gym pumping some iron when I looked around and thought to myself... hey I belong here. Amongst all these men I can hold my own.

It's sad that the free weight area is so intimidating, but at first it really is! I think this is why most women {young and old} stay away from this area. You start to think am I doing this move right, who is looking at me, are my nipples showing, is my gut sticking out, I'm such a sally I'm only lifting 10lbs, and on and on and on. But really it's all in YOUR head. Nobody cares what you are doing or how much you are lifting.

E and I have been lifting consistently for 4 weeks now not missing a single workout. We have gotten stronger, lost some weight and have maybe become a little addicted to the lifting and the steam room. I used to run on the treadmill day after day. After a while I started to dread it. But I didn't know what else to do at the gym. Lifting has added a different element. I want to get stronger so I go. I want to try and lift more than I did last week so I go.

Ever since I had the heart to heart with myself, my eating has been spot on. I found this silly and maybe rather somewhat rediculous saying on Pinterest, but for some reason I can't stop thinking about it. I would kill to be at my goal weight. And this silly little saying reminds me of that.

Just think about what it will feel like when...
- your favorite jeans fit just perfect
- you not longer have a muffin top
- when you sit, you have a flat stomach
- you can totally rock a two piece
- it doesn't take you all morning to get dressed
- shopping is fun, everything looks amazing on
- your can wear shorts
- your arms look toned
- you finally allow yourself to buy an expensive pair of jeans because they look that good on you

Falling off the wagon...

and being drug for a couple of miles.

Last weekend P-Man and I went to Blackhawk to celebrate his 31st birthday. I planned on having some drinks and eating whatever I wanted, but I didn't expect the bar and buffet to stay open for the rest of the week and into this weekend.

Instead of getting back on track I went out and bought a new scale 'cause I thought Mr. Health-O-Meter was messing with me. He gave me the exact same weight for 3 days straight. So one day I got frustrated and weighed myself 1 million times in a 10 minute time frame {please tell me other people do this and I'm not crazy}. Mr. Health-O-Meter must have thought it would be funny to mess with me and give me 3 different readings. Now how is this possible?! So I did what any sane person would do, I bought a new fancy Weight Watchers scale {Wanda the Wonderful}. I am hoping that Wanda will be more kind.

As I am writing this, I should probably tell you that I begged my husband to buy me Oreos. Because his middle name is Mr. Wonderful he did. So as I am bitching about my lack of dedication I am eating oreos. Duh winning.

The whole point of this post is to convince myself to get myself back on track. I love the workout program I'm doing {Jamie Eason's Life Fit} and I am seeing great results. I am in the last week of phase 1, which is solely lifting. In phase 2 the eating gets a little stricter and we finally add in some cardio. Eating healthy becomes 10 times more important as we start to burn off the fat. So it's totally up to me to jump back on the wagon, become focused and go after what I want.

It Starts in the Kitchen and Ends in the Gym

I finished week 1 of Jamie Eason's LiveFit Training Program. The results I have seen in one weeks time is AMAZING! So far I have lost around 7lbs. Pretty cool right? How is this possible? I've learned that it starts in the kitchen and ends in the gym.

In this phase I eat 6-7 small meals a day eating a shit tone of protein, limited starches, healthy fats and all the vegies I want. It's not too hard as long as you can plan and make your meals in advance.  I am still working on this. The key is to have healthy foods in the kitchen and new recipes to try when you start to think you might not be able to choke down eat another piece of chicken in your life.

For the first month (phase 1), our workouts consist of weight lifting; no cardio at all. The idea is to build muscle first and then in phase 2 and 3 we will work on leaning out. I forgot how much I love to lift. I especially like it when we enter the man zone and we are struggling to lift 15 pounds when the grunting ginormo guy next to us is throwing down 50lbs.

My main goal is to get below 130 and stay in the 120-something. I would also love to get rid of the love handles, add definition to the arms so they don't wobble-wobble and of course every girls dream have abs.

All of this is for this coming summer. We spend as many weekends as possible at the lake. Translation, I am in a swim suite a lot. I would love to feel absolutely great in a two piece. The second part of this is we wake board. I cannot tell you how tiring this sport can be. Being in great shape means less falls and more attempts at tricks.

Lastly, what girl, lady, women doesn't want to feel absolutely great about their body? Right now in my life I don't have anything keeping me from reaching this goal but myself. Why let myself stand in my way when all it takes is hard work and dedication? The contestants do it every single season on The Biggest Loser. I am not any different than they are {well minus being obese and getting to see Bob Harper and Dovelts gorgous bodies everyday??}. But you get what I mean.

I get that some people don't understand the obsession. But it's what makes me tick. I love talking about what I'm eating, how much weight I've lost and the workouts I'm doing. It makes me excited to do it all over again tomorrow.

No Halloween Candy Thursday

Wednesday nights are very special. For some ungodly reason I pay someone to torture me. Tonight was my 5th personal training session with Ass Kicker. Finally for the first time, I hit my groove! I was able to complete most of the exercises without needing a break. I felt confident and powerful. I've hit my stride!

Tonight's workout was based around the "Octane" elliptical. Craziest machine I have ever been on. I even did this move pictured below. We worked the entire body starting with arms all the way to legs.

I then met some friends for Zumba. Gotta get my groove on! I swear Ashley only comes to watch me make a complete fool of myself. It might be her favorite pass time.

The best thing about tonight was my conversation with Ass Kicker and how I should be eating better if I am putting all my energy and time into working out. Turns out you have to eat healthy in order to see results. Who knew? Ass Kicker challenged me to lose 2lbs by next Wednesday. Game on!!! The goal is to stay away from starches and eat a ton of veges, fruit and lean protein. Sounds easy-peasy right...? Good think I also challenged my sister-from-the-same-mr to a water chug-a-lug marathon {drink at least 64oz of water} and zero tolerance for Halloween candy tomorrow. Talk about great timing!

Oh ya I almost forgot. I reached a running milestone. I am apart of the elite most popular running club ever- Jack Quinn's Running Club! Check out this hot picture of me receiving my 10 run shirt.

My lil sis is at 6 or 7 runs, Augusta is at 3 and Harley 2. We are a pretty big deal! Now's probably not the time to mention that a friend received her century shirt. She's probably a bigger deal!

Okay so where's to many, many trips to the bathroom and no Halloween candy Thursday!!!!

{Personal Training Diaries}

This evening I had my first personal training session. I knew it was going to be tough, but I had lifted before, with some strong serious lifting dudes, so I thought I would do fairly well.

Enter Mr. Trainer Dude.

He kicked my ass. I have never felt so weak and sissy la-la in my entire life. This also tells me that I am not good at pushing myself to my limits when lifting on my own. Mr. Trainer Dude had me questioning my ability right off the bat with a 3 minute blank. Seriously who can do a 3 minute plank?! Then he asked me to do some ab exercises and I literally couldn't. This was a huge eye opener. My core is WEAK. There is nothing there.

I then worked my chest, shoulders and some lower back. Each exercise he pushed me to my max without compromising form. The goal of all this is to not only get stronger, but also know proper technique.

Workout Session 1:
Row 4 minute warm-up

Plank 3 minutes
Ab workout (similar to a P90X V-Up Roll Up)
Regular crunches
Crunch pulses with bar
Side Oblique crunces

Bench Press
Seated Row
Assisted Pull Ups
Butterfly Chest Machine Thingy
Ab workout holding feet up and bringing knees in
Elevated Row
Elevated Pull Down Bar Thingy
Push Ups on knees using ball
Side Planks

Ending with the Foam Roller

I hope my P90X Recovery drink does its magical trick and makes me feel good as new tomorrow.

I noticed that in my workout I was parched the entire time. I need to make sure to drink more water throughout the day. Also, when I got home I wasn't hungry like at all. I need to switch up my meals and eat the salad with beans for lunch to make sure I get my vegetables and save the bean soup for dinner. It's also probably important to eat dinner.

One of the main reasons I am working with a personal trainer is to build my strength. I know lifting plays a vital part in my overall fitness level. I just don't have the knowledge or will power to do it.

I also have this goal on my 30 Before Thirty list to be in the best shape of my life. I knew that without help I wouldn't be able to reach this goal to the tone of best shape of my life. I feel like now is the right time to commit my time to a trainer. Preston's pool leagues have started, it's getting colder out, Ashley is Prego and I have this huge desire to be lean and toned all before I turn 30- in little over a year. For all of these reasons I decided to ask for help.

The Result of an Unplanned Workout

Yesterday my workout involved the treadmill, a stationary row machine and an elliptical. I didn't feel like being at the gym so I thought I would mix it up to help get me through it.

My run on the treadmill didn't go so well. The big huge treadmill machine started wobbling around like crazy around mile 1. I have a tendency to run with pounding feet so that might have caused the treadmill to come unbalanced. I reluctantly pealed myself away from the Toddlers and Tiaras show (crazy show by the way) and jumped on another machine. By this time my running mojo was gone. I didn't last very long. I really wanted to go home. But since I had only been at the gym for like 10 minutes I started looking for another machine.

Enter the row machine. I was hoping to burn around 100 calories on the beast, but only lasted for probably around 8 minutes. I have such a hard time with stamina on this machine. Did you see those guy on The Biggest Loser going crazy on the row machine?? I about die every time I get on this machine.

To end the dreadful workout I jumped on the "easy" elliptical. The last time I did the elliptical was in college. At that time in my life I was over weight and out of shape. I didn't believe that over weight people could run on a treadmill so I chose the elliptical. I remember hating it then and still hate it now. This is not a cake workout. My legs  and calves were on fire and I was winded the entire time.

As soon as I got to my 350 calorie burn I busted out of the gym. I am not sure why I had such a hard time. Maybe is was because I lacked a plan. Next time I go, I must have a plan. Period.

I am hoping that I will get some pointers from my personal trainer tomorrow!!! I stole Preston's paid for sessions, because it was driving me bat-shiznit crazy that he wasn't using them nor had any solid plans to do so. He is in major pool mode now. Plus what better way to get ready for the cruise and get in the best shape of my life! I am the type of person who needs someone to push me and teach me. I think I will strive in this setting. I am soo excited and freaking nervous. I cannot wait for the trashing I am going to get tomorrow!!!

For the LOVE of Running

I think I have found my love for running again!!

My sister and I have been running Jack Quinn's pretty regularly. I am actually pretty excited that I just ran run #7 this week! My goal when I started JQ was to reach the 10 run mark before winter. It's pretty much in the bag!!

Running with L-Dawg is GREAT and exactly what I needed to get my running mojo back. She is new to running. I love watching her passion and excitement for the sport flourish each week. It reminds me why I love running and keeps me going back for more.

Some runs are easy while others are painfully hard. There's really no explanation. It all depends on the running gods. It's the runs that feel and fit just right that make you go back for more. You start to crave those runs. And you can't stop thinking about the possibility of beating you PR time.

Speaking of PR time, I looked back and last year I ran a 5K (Sailin' Shoes) in 24:59. This is CRAZY fast!!! I honestly have no idea how I did it? I have not ran one race this year even close to this time. I would kill to run this time again. So this is my goal. To run a 5k on a treadmill at a 1% incline in 24 minutes and 59 seconds.

Here is a start to my goal. I ran 1 mile at an 8 mile pace. I about died.

Today I ran 3.2 miles in 28:11 with an average page of 8:48. Basically I need to cut this back to an average pace of 8 minutes which is around 7.3/7.4 speed on a treadmill. It's not going to be easy!

Did I tell you that I signed up for personal training sessions!! My first session is Wednesday. I am supper excited. P-Dawg and I go on a cruise in December. I need to get toned! And to get toned I need to lift. Enter personal trainer. Can't wait to tell you all about it!

Flavor of the Month Obsession

It all started when P told me he was thinking about getting a personal trainer in the fall.

Let me back up. I have been begging gently asking P to workout with me. I knew he would love P90X and get great amazing bomb.com results.

But he couldn't seem to find the personal motivation.

I asked him to go to the gym and lift with me.

He said it wasn't his hobby.

I understood that. Pool wasn't my hobby. So i dropped it. His BFF talked him into running a 5K. He did amazingly good. Beat me and almost won the bet. But hated it.

It wasn't his passion.

We talked him into doing the Warrior Dash at the end of August. Passed it off as a drink fest. He's probably going to hate it.

So why is he all of a sudden talking about a Personal Trainer?  What's his why?

He stumbled across another passion (besides pool). He loves to boat and wakeboard. As a result, he wants to get stronger and lose his belly.

It's that simple. He found a hobby that he enjoys and realizes that if he gets in a little better shape he can get up on the wakeboard one more time. Push himself to attempt one more trick.  Get a little better.

And so today we joined a new gym. One of those spa type gyms with the most amazing amenities. Sure I'm a Beachbody Coach who should be promoting Beachbody workouts such as P90X or Insanity, but if Preston wants to join a gym and hire a personal trainer I'm in. No questions asked. Because the goal is getting in shape not about selling Beachbody workouts.

Now let me tell you about this new gym. It has a rock climbing wall!! Yep, it comes with the membership. I have been rock climbing only once and I immediately feel in love with the sport. But I never perused it because it's a two person activity and costs some cash-money-hoes.  Now I can do it everyday if I chose.

The new gym also has an MMA training room with MMA classes. Free with the membership. Oh how I have missed kickboxing.

We also get a health assessment that tells you what your inner age is- kinda like the Biggest Loser. Plus we can go back every 4 weeks to get a reassessment.

Did I mention, they have indoor tennis courts!

I am soo excited! But I am like this with all new toys. In fact, I'm going to the gym in the morning for my first official workout! Oh ya, the locker rooms are heaven!

I must admit I feel a little guilty for quitting Gold's. I'm leaving the smaller guy to join the big-box-drive-you-out-of- town company. Down inside I feel like a trader... Then I remind myself that Preston is just as excited as I am to workout. Finally! And the guilty feeling goes away.

Jack Quinn Newb

I have been wanting to do the the Jack Quinn's run since last year, but I never got around to it. I told myself it was too hot or too cold or that it would be hard and scary and just plain awful!

Today Ashley, Jennifer and I ran our very first Jack Quinn's run. We even celebrated afterwards with beer, water and Garbanzo.
Post Run. (Yes I'm a little burnt from the lake)

Jennifer & Ashley Post Run.
For everyone out there who wants to do the run, but is intimidated like it was JUST DO IT! It's a fun route that goes by quick with only one major hill. Tons of people show up to run, walk and jog- so you won't feel pathetic if you have/want to walk the whole way and you are never the last one. Plus there is cheap beer at the end. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

Hot, Dark, Vacant Room, Blasting Music and Grunting

Ashley and I decided it's time to start focusing on running, biking and swimming in preparation of the Triathlon in August. Since we haven't ran seriously in quite sometime we decided to start out slow. Like only 3 miles slow. I made it to 1.5 miles before my knee started giving me trouble. I ended up running the 3 miles, but with multiple stops to stretch. This run goes down as the worst run EVER!

Today I was not very excited to go back to the gym. I definitely didn't want to repeat yesterday's workout. How did I make myself go? I turned off the negative thoughts in my mind and didn't allow my inner self to talk me out of it. I just drove... and eventually I ended up at the gym.

Luckily Ashley decided to meet me at the gym. We both agreed that running was not an option. Potentially the best aspect of Golds Gym on Powers is the spinning room is always vacant.

We have them put on my new workout playlist and start spinning.... for an entire hour!! This is the longest I have ever lasted on a bike period, minus the 2 spinning classes I attended. We had an amazing, challenging workout! I have never enjoyed biking this much. I believe I found the secret. A hot, dark, vacant room, with music blasting and Ashley right there with me grunting the entire time. Amazing.

1 Day at a Time

Our Vegas Vacation is less than 3 weeks away!

I have some bad news. I ran out of clean eating oomph and have eaten my share of Easter candy. Where's the focus man!?!?

Instead of trying to focus for 16 days straight, I am going to take 1 day at a time. Sounds simple right?!?!

Tomorrow's Game Plan
1.   Weigh-In so I have a starting point {Frank-O and I have not been on speaking terms.}
2.  Absolutely NO Chocolate {This is going to be challenging. I just received delish-milk-chocolate-goodies in the mail.}
3.  Drink 64 ounces of Water.
4.  Absolutely NO POP.
5.  Go to the GYM {even if my workout buddies cannot.}

Man Hands and Other News

I am starting to get man hands. I have callouses on my hands from weight lighting. Although they make me look tough it hurts! I am in desperate need of some weight lifting gloves. Man hands are not what I am going for. Defined, non flab-jab arms YES. Man hands NO.

Speaking of lifting, I find much satisfaction in watching myself muscles in the mirror. Ashley and I are in disagreement about this. She almost refuses to watch herself in the mirror. I on the other hand am a mirror junky. Seeing my newly defined muscles flex and pop in the mirror gives me motivation to go home eat a healthy dinner and workout the next day. It's almost as satisfying as seeing the number on the scale go down.

This week I have decided not to step on Frank-O-Meter until Friday. This is huge for me. I have a hard time going one day without weighing in. It's kind of a sick obsession; one that I am ready to confront. I have eaten great this week and worked out hard. There is no need to weigh myself everyday at this point. I am doing everything in my power to aid in my weight loss so really it doesn't matter what Frank spits out. See, I'm listening to your comments! But I'm not going to lie, I can't wait for Friday to get here!

Yada Yada Yada

Last week I worked out 5 days like normal and ate great. This week I lifted on Monday and took Tuesday off to hang out with Ashley.  We had the most amazing time- shopping and dinner at Garbanzo. I actually found the perfect going out Denver/Las Vegas dress at I.Got.It.At.Ross.

I had my cheat meal on Friday at none other than Old Chicago's. Saturday I started the day out strong eating healthy and then yada yada yada and now it's Wednesday.

Trying to get back on track!!!

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs

Weight Lifting- A Man's World?

I am intimidated by big muscley men in the gym. As a result I don't go near the weight machines and I most definitely stay away from the free weights.  In fact I wouldn't know what to do in that part of the gym.

I'm not a total newb (name that TV show) when it comes to weight lifting. I did finish P90X, but I had Tony guiding me through every workout. My results with P90X were great (they would have been better if I would have focused on my diet). But I want to be more toned and in order to get toned I have to either do P90X again or start lifting more at the gym.

Right now I am loving the atmosphere of the gym. I also like the idea of getting out of the house. So for now I am abandoning P90X and Insanity. But I have made a promise with myself that I will finish the entire Insanity program sometime in the new future!

Ashley and I now have our own personal trainer! Well actually he is Ashley's co-worker. But he is so knowledgeable and loves to teach that it feels like we have a trainer.  We lift with him, his fiance and his brother.

I am starting to understand the addiction side of lifting and the benefits of lifting with at lease one other person. I love the fact that you feed off of each others energy. If you go harder, they go harder. It's all about competition, but with yourself.

Today we lifted back and biceps. My favorite part of the workout was the rope excercise (I felt like a biggest loser contestant)

And hitting this (I forgot how much I enjoy boxing)

The goal is to lift with the group 2-3 times a week and do cardio (run or swim) the other 2-3 days. My "trainer" says I should be toned by Vegas! And by toned I don't mean this...
Or this...

All I have to do is make sure I stick to my diet.

Bring it people... summer is almost here!!!

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs
Current Weight: 129.4lbs
Total Weight Loss: -5.2lbs
Goal Weight: 120lbs
Note: Won the Work Weight-Loss Challenge!

Swim Lesson

I thought today's workout was going to be easy. A nice break from two days of hard running. Ashley had something else in mind.

Ashley found time to research swim technique drills. And so instead of swimming our usual .5 mile at our usual pace, we tried something new.

I won't bore you with what our workout consisted of, but we worked on kicking and stroke. We were surprised at how much stronger our legs were from last time we did used the kick board. We actually kicked for 200 yards straight. A huge accomplishment for us both! The lady in the next lane however, wasn't as enthusiastic about our kicking as we were. She might have gotten splashed a couple times.

Ashley and I also taught ourselves how to do a flip-turn! We have been trying to learn how to do a flip-turn forever. Today it all just clicked.

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs
Current Weight: 130.6lbs
Total Weight Loss: -4lbs
Goal Weight: 120lbs
Note: So, so tired.

Treadmill Torture

Because I love torture and grueling pain, I did the Treadmill Boot Camp class this evening.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

The class really puts it to you. The best part is, how hard you work is completely up to you. It's just you against the stop watch. If you ask me the stop watch was extremely slow today. 4 minutes felt like an eternity!

This is what my workout looked like today.

- Run 4 minutes at a fast pace on an incline of 1.0, to simulate the outdoors. I chose 6.7 for rounds 1-3 and 6.9 for round 4. I almost died on round 4!

-  Take it back down to your base. My base is 6.0. Run for 1 minute. This is your recover time.

- Take the incline to 3.0 and run for 2 minutes at your base pace. Round two take the incline to 4.0, round three 5.0 and round four 6.0.

- Take the incline to 0 and run for 1 minute at your base. This is your recover time.

Do this 4 times... if you like to be tortured!

The reason why I put myself through this torture is to hopefully improve my speed and endurance. I have three major fitness goals (not including weight loss) this year that are going to take some torture and suffering in the gym to achieve.

They are:

1. Break my 5K PR time of 24:59.
2. I want the last leg of the Triathlon, running, to not be as hard as last year. I do not want my legs to feel like concrete!
3. Beat my Incline PR time of 37:19.

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs
Current Weight: 130.2lbs
Total Weight Loss: -4.4lbs
Goal Weight: 120lbs
Note: Great workout!
