Triathlete?

My best friend, Ashley, has somehow talked me into competing in a triathlon in August of 2010. This will be our first triathlon. I am so excited and scared at the same time. I have no idea what to expect, but I am looking forward to the challenge. I cannot wait to see what it feels like to be in a competitive situation where I will be pushed, both mentally and physically, to the next level. The sprint triathlon that we are competing in is the Tri for the Cure- a Women's Triathlon at the Cherry Creek State Park in Denver, Colorado. We will be swimming .5 miles, biking 11.4 miles and running 3.1 miles. Below is the course map.

So the next question is how in the world do I train for this? After doing some research, I found that most triathlon training programs suggest that you start with a strength based workout and then add swimming, biking and running intervals about 18 weeks prior to the race. P90X looks to be the perfect workout to jump start my training! Right now I am 3 weeks into P90X and I am already seeing some killer results. My arms, shoulders, back and legs are starting to become more defined and my thighs feel rock hard. The Beachbody Recovery drink is really helping my muscles recover faster, not to mention that the orange Recovery drink tastes amazing and is very addicting!
