{Beachbody Ultimate Reset} Phase 3

I have finally made it to week 3, phase 3 of the Beachbody Ultimate Reset cleanse. I only have 5 more days to go!!! Thank god. This cleanse is hard! My weight loss results is the only motivating factor keeping me going.

  • Phase 1: Lost 4.6lbs
  • Phase 2: Lost 1.5lbs
  • Day 1, Phase 3: Lost 1.5lbs

Thus far I have lost a total of 7.6lbs!!! Because of this I keep going.

I am stilling suffering though the "Jolly Green Giant" drink.  Some days I can drink it no problem. Other days I gag. I have been drinking this every day for 16 days now. Yuck!
{Alkalinize Powder}

{Alkalinize Mixed}
I am drinking over a gallon of water a day. The catch is, I can only drink distilled water with Himalayan Salt added to it. My pee is officially clear.
{My Nalgene Never Leaves My Side}

I have eaten fruit everyday for breakfast for 9 days straight. Only fruit. I know that this sounds yummy, but fruit gets old and does not fill you up. I am soo sick of fruit.
{Please, No More Fruit}

For the remainder of Phase 3, I will be eating a salad for lunch every.single.day. I am so over salad.

Luckily I have my BFF suffering through this crazy ass cleanse with me.

{Barbell Fitness Class} A New Experience

I had a plan. Go directly to the gym after work. Throughout the day I kept telling myself this so I couldn't come up with something better to do on a Friday night.

I made it to the gym without any internal struggle. But once I got there I didn't know what I wanted to do. I noticed a barbell class was about to start. Before I could convince myself of 100 reasons why I didn't want to go I stepped outside of my comfort zone and walked in.

Before today I had never done a barbell class or any class at Lifetime besides Zumba and one beginners yoga class. I hate walking into something not knowing. I guess doesn't everybody to some degree? If I could just be briefed and prepared for every thing that comes my way I could avoid all awkwardness and anxiety. If only, right!

As with most unknown things, the class ended up being fun and challenging. I learned a lot about proper form and technique; a lot of tips that I can use during my regular lifting sessions. I believe we worked every muscle except for calves. A total body workout is very gratifying. And it also gives you a chance to see what your strength areas are and where you are the most weak. Pretty much my core is mush and my quads are weaklings. I'm excited to see how sore I am tomorrow.

If you're wondering what else I did on a Friday night, I cleaned carpets. I rented one of those Mr. Carpet Cleaner guys from King Soopers and went to town. It can be a little addicting seeing all of the nar-nar brown water you dump out of the container. It makes you want to keep going and going and going. I just have the Master bedroom to finish up tomorrow.

Hope your Friday night was more eventful than mine!

Finding Structure before it's too Late

I need to find some major motivation. I have gained a crap ton {officially lingo for 10 plus pounds} of weight over the summer. I allowed it to happen. I ignored the first couple of pounds and before I knew it I was 10 pounds heavier. I stopped eating healthy and I stopped going to the gym.

I will be 30 in three short months. I would love nothing more than to go into my thirties weighing in the 120's. This is going to take a lot of work on my part. Right now I feel like I look at food and gain weight.

I need a plan. I need structure. I need goals. I need motivation.

Here is the first step.

~ Take the 5 flight of stairs to and from work
~ Go to the gym at least 3 days a week
~ Drink 32 ounces of water every day
~ No candy, sweets, cookies
~ Eat in moderation
~ Lose the first 5lbs by September 1st

Work Weight Loss Challenge Update

We only have 2 weeks left in the Work Weight Loss Challenge! I am doing great. Especially since I started the "Live-It" way of eating. I am below my stated goal weight which tells me that I took the easy way out and didn't set a goal that would push me. At the end of the challenge I have to be at or below 135.2lbs. Currently I am at 134.6lbs. Assuming I stick to my eating plan, this will be a cake in the park and part of the pot will be mine!!

I am betting that I will have to share the pot with 2, maybe 3, other people. I am only expecting to get back around $30 thus winning $15. If this is what it takes for me to lose weight, winning $15, then so be it. Sign me up!

Today I was a little challenged by my "diet." I believe my problem was I let myself go to long before I ate lunch. By then, I was starving and wanted to pig out. Luckily I had enough self control to eat my delicious lunch {Amy's Bean Soup} and nothing else. The day I can have fruit, might be the happiest day of my life!!! What a treat that will be!!

Did you know that Olive Oil is not that good for you!? I honestly had no idea. I thought it was the best oil option out there. Turns out when it is heated {like when you use it to stir fry} the heat completely changes the composition of the oil and makes it bad for you. I just read this in the Forks Over Knives book and on some blogs. But after Googling it, it seems that there are two distinct sides. Just to be safe I am going to try cooking with hydrogenated unrefined coconut oil.

{My New Love}

I started the "Live-It' way of eating yesterday. Day 1 proved to be a success. P-Dawg and I took a trip to the big city of Denver and experienced Ikea for the first time ever. Wow! Soo much to take in. A little overwhelming at times. At one point I thought I was going to break down in tears because I couldn't find Preston and my cell phone didn't work.

I wanted to go to Ikea to look for an end table for our living room. We came home with a new rug, floor lamp and pictures instead. I am putting together the final touches on our living room. I decided to steel my sister's idea and decorate in navy blue, white and silver. It goes really well with our mocha couches. We ended up finding an end table at American Furniture Warehouse. I have been searching this town like crazy looking for navy blue throw pillows. No luck. It looks like I might order some from Esty. I can't wait for everything to come together. I'll post pictures soon!

Anyways, I ate lunch at the mall Saturday. I found a little bakery/cafe that happened to be serving dairy free black bean chipotle soup. It was actually very tasty! I also had a small below average salad. For dinner I had a salad with black beans. I am going to have to start branching out and trying new vegetables (like spaghetti squash) or I am going to get tired of salad and black bean soup very soon.

What I really wanted to share with you is this...

This is the best kept secret! If I had known about this 40 calorie Vanilla Almond Breeze wonderfulness, I would have given up cows milk a long time ago. It's really, really amazing.

Especially if you mix it with this...

Since I am temporally not eating bananas, I decided to mix my chocolate Shakeology with vanilla almond milk, ice and a little water.

This is what I got...

This is by far the best tasting Shakeology shake I have ever had!

Operation Panic

I ran across a new blog tonight that has made me come to a crazy decision. First, the blog is called Beautiful Mess. Second, the crazy decision is I have decided to cut out dairy/animal products, among other things, for at least 1 month. Starting October 1st, which happens to be tomorrow.

I have been considering cutting out dairy/animal products for awhile now, but I get overwhelmed and don't know how or where to start and frankly what to eat besides cereal and a ton of carbs.

Beautiful Mess talks about this "diet" called "Live-It" that she followed strictly for 2 1/2 months. She had amazing results from it. It's follows the eat to live way of thinking.

The guidelines:
~ No fruit or butter for the first 2 weeks
~ For the first 30 days avoid: sugar, yeast, dairy products & fermented products or alcoholic drinks {I will be avoiding animal meat as well}
~ After 30 days I can add: oatmeal, sweet potato and brown rice

So no grains, pasta, baked goods, alcohol, sugar or pop.

What I Can Eat:
~ Vegetables: (no corn or carrots) cucumbers, celery, zucchini, spinach, tomatoes, onions, squash, artichokes, asparagus, bell peppers, bok choy, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, green beans, kale, okra, lettuce, spaghetti squash, lemons and limes
~ Beans: green, kidney, black, pinto, red
~ Fats: avocado, nuts, natural peanut/almond butter
~ Other: salsa, tomato sauce, broth, spices
~ Drinks: coffee black, green tea, water

Acceptable Fruits after 2 weeks:
~ Best: strawberries, blueberries, apples, pears, kiwis, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, peaches
~ Avoid: {due to natural sugar content} pineapple, cherries, watermelon, dates, figs, bananas, grapes. I think I will pretend that grapes and bananas are on the best list.

*Guidelines taken from Beautiful Mess

30 days is a long time. But I am going on a cruise a.k.a. living in a bakini for 8 days in just 2 short months. Operation panic!!

Fighting Like Hell

The weight that I have progressily put on over the summer because I lived at the lake and fell in love with this wonderful drink...
Mixed with this...
is so freakin hard to get off. It's so frustrating that I let myself put on the extra 7-10 pounds. I knew I was gaining weight, but I decided to ignore it. Well when your pants start to fit tight you can't really ignore it anymore. When I gain weight I tend to become very introverted. I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to stay at home and clean the house.  I have no idea why I get the urge to clean.

I am fighting like hell to reach 133. But fighting sucks. It's hard. Take this week for example. P and I went grocery shopping, planned our meals and have cooked dinner every night since Sunday. I ran the Race for the Cure 5k on Sunday. Went to the gym and lifted on Monday. Then Tuesday came. The first weigh in our work weight loss group. I actually gained. Okay I know why I gained (family in town = dinner, drinks, breakfast).

Ever since Tuesday I have had a hard time fighting. On Tuesday I told myself I was too sore to run. On Wednesday I told myself I was too tired to go to the gym. Today, I was so hungry I told myself it was okay to get Chick-fil-A. WTF! I am my worst enemy!!

So how do you get motivated? Obviously I have not figured this out. I know I am a competitive person and like to win so I gathered the gals at the office and started the weight loss challenge. But at the moment it's not enough. When I wake up on the morning and try to find cloths to wear I get frustrated cause they are all tight. But that's not enough.

I want to be one of those people whose day fills out of whack if they don't go to the gym. I want to crave sweet. I want to see results. I.don't.want.to.fail. My only option is to keep fighting like hell.

A Post That I Have Been Avoiding

I am finally going to write about it. Actually put it on paper and admit it. Yikes!

I am having a hard time eating healthy.
I am having a hard time controlling how much I eat.
I am obsessing over food.
I am eating out a lot.
I buying healthy groceries and then letting them rot in the fridge.
I am gaining weight.
I am miserable.

I have such a bad relationship with food. I can't see food as simply energy or something that my body needs to live on. You know eat to live instead of live to eat. I dream about food and as soon a I eat one meal I am already thinking of the next.

Enough ignoring the situation. I am stepping up and doing something about it. I'm not starting tomorrow, I started tonight.

The only way I am going to succeed is acknowledging that summer activities are going to get in the way.  I want to continue to have a fun summer and induldge in some adult beverages. So I am not going to go all health-nut-psycho. But I am going to make better choices.

I know what foods are healthy and what foods I need to stay away from (Chick-fil-A, Monica's, Chocolate). So I am not going to say I am only eating salad or following this crazy diet. I know me and I know that by putting restrictions will lead me towards failure not success.

Skakeology Final Number

I finished the Shakeology cleanse on Wednesday. I weighed in on Thursday morning at 128.2lbs! Sooo close to 127lbs! I think I probably lost around 2.8lbs on the cleanse.

I am doing the cleanse again this week, before we leave for Vegas. This time around I am making sure to weight in at the start of the cleanse. I would really, really, really love to be around 127lbs when we leave for Vegas.

Yes, only have 5 days until we leave for vacation. 10 days in Las Vegas may sound miserable to some, but to Preston and I we are giddy with excitement! We love Vegas, almost too much. We are so lucky that we both equally enjoy Vegas, being that this is our number one vacation destination every-single-year.

This trip we are lucky to have many friends join us thoughout our 10 day stay. First Dan and Erin fly in and spend the first weekend with us. Then Jeff and Jackie get in at the beginnig of the following week. Next Josh and Ashley fly in the last weekend along with my friend Ashley from college, who I haven't seen in probably 5 years!

Believe it or not, I have never been to a pool in Las Vegas. I figure surely I can fit in some pool time this trip! Maybe the lazy river around the Monte Carlo? Preston and I also want to catch the water show at the Bellagio, zip line down Freemont Street, check out the Aria, play craps at the Encore, see the lions at MGM and make the money in the pool tournament.

But most importantly, we want to recreate this picture!!!

Shakeology Cleanse {Day Three}

I did it!! I am finishing up day 3 of the Shakeology cleanse. What a great accomplishment. Honestly, the cleanse isn't that bad. But you do have to be in the right mind set. Today I passed up fajitas. Other days I would not have been able to do this.

This morning I weighed 128.6lbs. Down .6 lbs from yesterday. Not bad considering I didn't workout. I can't wait to see what my final number is tomorrow. Anything below 128.5lbs will be a success!

PS- my sister graduates from college tomorrow with a degree in Economics. So proud of her!!

Shakeology Cleanse {The Low Down}

Officially 10 days until Vegas! This means go time. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to "shape up!"

Yesterday I started the 3 day Shakeology cleanse. The goal is to detox the body and lose a couple extra pounds along the way.

So what will I be eating or rather drinking on the Shakeology Cleanse?

  • 3 Shakeology shakes blended with water, ice and 1/2 banana throughout the day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack)
  • Dinner: Large salad with 4 ounces of protein (either chicken or black beans), all the vegetables I want, flax seed and little oil/vinegar for dinner. Tonight I added plain hummus for some extra flavor.
  • Water, water, water. Coffee and tea are okay too (no cream or sugar)
That's it, for 3 long days! Day 1 was easy. But then again I was super motivated. Day 2- today- was a little harder. The office smelled like food the entire day. I actually had a little break down and ate a Luna Bar.  I can tell you it wasn't worth it! Very bland tasting.

Last night my salad was the worst salad I have ever had. I think my lettuce and tomatoes were rotten. Knowing that I was a little vulnarable today, I made sure to go to the store. I add a little extra kick to my salad, hummus. Yum-Yum!! I am actually looking forward to this same salad tomorrow.

I didn't weight myself yesterday so I have no idea where I started. I actually didn't decide to do the cleanse until I was on my way to work Monday morning. This morning I weighted 129.2lbs. My guess is I lost around 2-3 pounds the first day.  But I also worked my booty off at the gym. I ran 3.5 miles for the first time since probably March and lifted hard.

I hope to be in the 128's tomorrow! Actually if I see 127lbs I might break out in tears or sing an opera song like Olivia did on The Biggest Loser. I haven't been in the 127's for a long, long time. This.would.be.monumental.

I met 4 of the 5. Can you guess what goal I I didn't meet... the NO chocolate goal. Sorry but the little chocolates were eying me today. They shouldn't be a problem tomorrow.

1.  Drink 64 ounces of water
2.  No POP
3.  Eat clean throughout the day

1 Day at a Time

Our Vegas Vacation is less than 3 weeks away!

I have some bad news. I ran out of clean eating oomph and have eaten my share of Easter candy. Where's the focus man!?!?

Instead of trying to focus for 16 days straight, I am going to take 1 day at a time. Sounds simple right?!?!

Tomorrow's Game Plan
1.   Weigh-In so I have a starting point {Frank-O and I have not been on speaking terms.}
2.  Absolutely NO Chocolate {This is going to be challenging. I just received delish-milk-chocolate-goodies in the mail.}
3.  Drink 64 ounces of Water.
4.  Absolutely NO POP.
5.  Go to the GYM {even if my workout buddies cannot.}

Man Hands and Other News

I am starting to get man hands. I have callouses on my hands from weight lighting. Although they make me look tough it hurts! I am in desperate need of some weight lifting gloves. Man hands are not what I am going for. Defined, non flab-jab arms YES. Man hands NO.

Speaking of lifting, I find much satisfaction in watching myself muscles in the mirror. Ashley and I are in disagreement about this. She almost refuses to watch herself in the mirror. I on the other hand am a mirror junky. Seeing my newly defined muscles flex and pop in the mirror gives me motivation to go home eat a healthy dinner and workout the next day. It's almost as satisfying as seeing the number on the scale go down.

This week I have decided not to step on Frank-O-Meter until Friday. This is huge for me. I have a hard time going one day without weighing in. It's kind of a sick obsession; one that I am ready to confront. I have eaten great this week and worked out hard. There is no need to weigh myself everyday at this point. I am doing everything in my power to aid in my weight loss so really it doesn't matter what Frank spits out. See, I'm listening to your comments! But I'm not going to lie, I can't wait for Friday to get here!

It Doesn't Happen Overnight

I can be hard on myself. Especially when I make a promise to myself and say this time will be different... and then it isn't.

First comes the feeling of failure. Followed by the harsh words that you tell yourself and maybe even start to believe.
_______________________________________________________

On Monday, I made another promise to myself and Ashley. The same promise that I always make...

This morning I started beating myself up for thinking that this go around would be different. I  told myself that getting to 120lbs was stupid. Why put myself through all of this torture when it's never going to happen. It's too hard of a goal. Basically unattainable, so just give up now.

It took me most of the day to realize the positive and transform my thinking. I have come a long way damn it. I have been working out consistently since January and weight lifting for about 3 weeks now. My pants are looser and I feel myself getting stronger. Not only that, but my weight range has changed. Before my weight rang was between 136-133. Then it changed 134-131. And now it's between 131-128.

A reminder to myself. You are seeing change. Stop being hard on yourself. You are going in the right direction and will soon reach your goal. It takes time and many, many promises to yourself {and Ashley}. It's not something that happens overnight. It's a process.

Encouraging Words

Sometimes you run across words of encouragement at just the right moment when you are ready to fully take them in and apply them to your life.

Last week a co-worker brought in a "diet" book for me to look at. As I skimmed through the book, I came across a chapter called Metaphysiques. It was my aw-ha moment (as Oprah would say). The words really resonated with me, not only in my quest to become as fit and healthy as possible but also in the rest of my life.

Here are some of the topics that really stuck with me:

* The Power of Thought: negative thoughts attract failure. Switch the dialogue in your head to positive thoughts and you'll subconsciously reinforce success.

*Goals: write down your goals and make sure they are realistic and specific with the steps you'll take to achieve them.

*Visualize: take time to visualize where you want to be and what it will look like. Your body doesn't understand what is really happening and what is in your mind. To your mind, it's as if you already achieved it.

*Action: you can't just wish something will happen in your life, you have to take action. Move in the direction of your desire.

Weight Lifting- A Man's World?

I am intimidated by big muscley men in the gym. As a result I don't go near the weight machines and I most definitely stay away from the free weights.  In fact I wouldn't know what to do in that part of the gym.

I'm not a total newb (name that TV show) when it comes to weight lifting. I did finish P90X, but I had Tony guiding me through every workout. My results with P90X were great (they would have been better if I would have focused on my diet). But I want to be more toned and in order to get toned I have to either do P90X again or start lifting more at the gym.

Right now I am loving the atmosphere of the gym. I also like the idea of getting out of the house. So for now I am abandoning P90X and Insanity. But I have made a promise with myself that I will finish the entire Insanity program sometime in the new future!

Ashley and I now have our own personal trainer! Well actually he is Ashley's co-worker. But he is so knowledgeable and loves to teach that it feels like we have a trainer.  We lift with him, his fiance and his brother.

I am starting to understand the addiction side of lifting and the benefits of lifting with at lease one other person. I love the fact that you feed off of each others energy. If you go harder, they go harder. It's all about competition, but with yourself.

Today we lifted back and biceps. My favorite part of the workout was the rope excercise (I felt like a biggest loser contestant)

And hitting this (I forgot how much I enjoy boxing)

The goal is to lift with the group 2-3 times a week and do cardio (run or swim) the other 2-3 days. My "trainer" says I should be toned by Vegas! And by toned I don't mean this...
Or this...

All I have to do is make sure I stick to my diet.

Bring it people... summer is almost here!!!

100% Clean Eating- How Long Can I Last?

Because I 1) get board easily 2) love the thrill of trying something new 3) fell off the band wagon over the weekend 4) cannot come up with new meals I have decided to see how long I can go eating 100% clean as defined by Tosca Reno.

Clean eating is about eating non-processed foods to include lean protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. Eating 5 times per day, while paying attention to portion sizes.

Because I want to challenge myself and see major results before Vegas, I chose the strict meal plan. The downside with this plan is that it is so restrictive I might burn out quickly. So the question is, how long can I last before I break?

Here is what I ate today. I will be eating the same thing tomorrow.

Breakfast
  • Oatmeal
  • Ground Flax Seed  (tip: make sure to grind the flax seed. Otherwise the seed just passes through you whole.)
  • Bee Pollen (common benefits: weight loss, increased energy, digestive benefits, slows the aging process, prevents cancer, and helps with infertility. For more information click here.)
  • Green Tea
  • Reno recommends eggs, but I just can't make myself eat them.
Snack
  • Shakeology with 1/2 banana
  • Lemon Water
Lunch
  • Sweet Potato
  • Chicken
  • Green Beans
  • Green Tea
Snack
  • Shakeology with 1/2 Banana
  • Lemon Water
  • Recovery Drink post Workout
Dinner
  • Salad with Romain Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Onion
  • Black Beans
  • Avocado
  • Fresh Salsa
Today is the first day. I am exciting to see how I feel tomorrow.

Just Say No

Eating my cheat meal on Wednesday was a mistake. I instantly gained 2lbs, which I must admit shook my focus.  It's also that time of the month when I want to eat everything in site.

Thursday during the day I did fine. But when I got home I was too lazy to make anything so Preston and I got Chipotle for dinner. I did my research on what I could have, but I knew the sodium was going to be a problem. I ignored it.

This morning I weighted the same. Throughout the day I drank my water and ate perfect. When I got home Preston called to say he was getting Chick-Fil-A. But he didn't call to see if I wanted some, he called to see if he should eat it there so I wouldn't be tempted. Very kind of him. I, on the other hand, was contiplating if I wanted him to bring me home some. I was soo soo close to throwing in the towel. To think more clearly I told him I had to hang up and call him back. It only took me about 3 seconds to come to my answer. I called him back immediately and without hesitation said you can bring your dinner home. Oh and by the way I don't need anything.

I then proceeded to make a chicken whole grain pasta dish for my dinner. Not only was this the right decision to make in terms of my weight loss goal, but it is also the right decision especially with the 5K tomorrow. The last thing I want is Chick sloshing around in my stomach! I would rather not know where the Port-A-Potties are located thank you.

When you step back and really think about the choice in front of you, the correct answer is usually pretty clear and easy to make. It's when you make a hasty decision usually based on emotion or impulse that gets you into trouble. Next time you want fast food, stop and make yourself really think about it. You will be surprised how much easier it is to say no to yourself when you are fully engaged in the decision making process.

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs

Treadmill Boot Camp

Every Tuesday, Ashley and I try to steal one of the treadmill's that the boot camp uses. Today we decided to be apart of the treadmill boot camp class and challenge ourselves.

The instructor came over and asked us a couple questions to get an idea of what our base speed should be and how hard she could push us. She asked, "if you could run forever, what pace would that be." I enthusiastically say, "6.5." Ashley's eyes widen and say, "Um I think it's more like a 6.0." She later tells me she was going to say 5.0 until I said 6.5. After the workout we agreed from now on she speaks for us. I set the bar pretty high and we paid for it!

This class is really going to help us run faster and be more prepared for hills in a race. I can't believe we just now discovered it!

The treadmill workout is easy to incorporate in any workout. Try it sometime!

Find your base. Today ours was 6.0. The incline should always be at least a 1.0 to simulate outdoor running.

5 rounds of speed and hills
  • Run 1 minute at .5 or 1.0 over your base at an incline of 1.0. Each round push yourself to run a little faster.
  • Kick the incline to 2.0 and run at your base speed for 2 minutes. Round 2 incline goes to 3.0, round 3 incline goes to 4.0, round 4 incline goes to 5.0, round 5 incline comes back down to 3.0.
  • Take the incline back down to 1.0 and pick up your pace to .5 or 1.0 over your base for 1 minute pushing yourself to run faster each round.
  • Recover for 2 minutes and repeat for a total of 5 times.
30 second Drills
  • Run at your very, very fastest speed for 30 seconds.
  • Recover for 30 seconds.
  • Repeat for a total of 5 times.

Starting Weight (2/28/11): 134.6lbs
Current Weight: 128.8lbs
Total Weighl Loss: -5.8lbs
Goal Weight: 120lbs
